Many hospitals in Perth, Western Australia and other states and territories of Australia, sponsor Nurses from overseas who wish to work in Australia.

By contacting WANA we can start the process for you, do most of the hard legwork by finding you a suitable sponsor with a hospital client that will suit you and your new lifestyle and arrange all the details from start to finish. WANA travels to the UK and Ireland twice a year to meet with potential applicants who are interested in this process.

What is Sponsorship?

A Sponsorship is a contract between the hospital and you the nurse which is a fulltime work commitment for a minimum period of 12 months but that can be extended for up to four years. To qualify for sponsorship you must be eligible to gain your nursing registration within Australia.

Can my partner/spouse work in Australia if I am sponsored?

Yes. Spouse/partners are able to work under the candidate’s visa for the period of the sponsorship. There are virtually no restrictions for your partner/spouse.

How do I begin this process?

To begin the process we ask you to provide WANA with a current, and detailed Curriculum Vitae including name, date of birth, education & professional development and detailed work history. We also require 2 written references on hospital letterhead from recent (previous 12 months) clinical nursing referees. Other documentation will be requested throughout the process. Contact Us or Register Your Interest online.

How long does this process take?

The whole sponsorship process generally takes between 6-9 months from your initial contact with WANA to you arriving and commencing work in Australia. At certain times of the year this process can be extended – for example: if you apply over the Xmas period when the embassies can be closed for some weeks thereby holding up your application. Remember that this time frame is not set in stone – hold-ups can and do occur for various reasons!

Other Details

Sponsorship is a great option for many overseas Nurses. It gives Nurses - who are over 31yrs or have already had a Working Holiday Visa the option to return to Australia under a contract agreement. One definite advantage is that the Nurse can live and work in Australia for a period of time knowing they can return home should they wish to after completion of their set contract. Although, many sponsored Nurses do apply for Permanent Residency during their sponsored year.

If your particular clinical skills are in demand then our chances of finding you a suitable sponsor are greatly increased. The majority of vacancies which exist in Perth hospitals are for General Registered Nurses in a variety of clinical settings.

Hospitals in Australia generally offer some form of a relocation package for sponsored nurses but these are mostly individually negotiated.
